My name is Daniel Turner. I graduated from Virginia Tech in Spring 2015 with a degree in Geography and I am now pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education for Curriculum and Instruction for Secondary Education for History and the Social Sciences. My journey to get to this point has been a roller coaster full of experiences. When I started my undergrad, I began as a business major and quickly changed to Meteorology to one day be on TV reporting the weather. Before my Junior year of college, my dream had taken another turn, and it seemed I was destined to go back into the business world. When my high school principal had a discussion with me that I should look into working in Education because of my personality. And that’s when I began to explore education. I didn’t want to sit behind a desk and I wanted a career that would create new challenges and experiences everyday. At that point, I made the decision to stick with Geography, and the excellent professors that I had gave me the perfect example of what a teacher should be. This experience as well as my experience working in Intramural Sports showed me that I love working with people and that a career in education appears to be the path for me. This path has brought me to Mary Washington to pursue my Master’s as well as working as the Graduate Assistant for Intramural and Club Sports. I am excited to take advantage of this opportunity and find ways to use my experience with Intramural and Club Sports in the classroom and vice versa.
